Lenovo Bootable Generator is a tool runs on Windows platform to create Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB and Lenovo Linux Diagnostics - Bootable USB.

Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB is a diagnostic tool that can be booted itself and tests hardware devices in Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation, ThinkServer and IdeaPad

Lenovo Linux Diagnostics - Bootable USB is a diagnostic tool that can be booted itself and tests hardware devices in Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation, ThinkServer and IdeaPad.

End user has to create the USB diagnostic tool on a Windows system using Lenovo Bootable Generator, and the Bootable USB can be used on your Lenovo computer regardless of what OS your system has once it's created.

Installation and Launch


  1. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lenovo-bootable-generator-107.zip.
  2. Unzip the file.
  3. Launch BootablGenerator.exe from unzipped files.

Create Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB on Windows


Download the latest Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB image by go to www.lenovo.com/diags, then click Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB from the top navigation list.

After the navigation, click on link Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB (Create it on Windows OS) to reach Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB page to download image.

Please download uefi-bootable-usb-xxx.zip from that page where xxx is ther version numder.Unzip uefi-bootable-usb-xxx.zip to get UEFI_Bootable_vxxx.zip where xxx is the version number.

Plug the USB Key into your computer and launch Lenovo Bootable Generator, pls notice the following information should be provided by user:

  • Pendrive Label: the new name of the USB key you wish to use
  • Type: Choose UEFI from the drop down manu
  • Image: Choose UEFI_Bootable_vxxx.zip that you get from previous step
  • Click on the USB key you wish to create the tool with at Available Removable Devices section

Click on the button "Generate" to create Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB.
Please confirm the popup message box that informs you that all existing data will be erased on this device.
You may have to confirm for a popup message box that informs you that all explorer windows will be closed while createing the Bootable USB.

Once Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB is created, please restart your computer and boot with the USB key to use its functions.


Create Lenovo Linux Diagnostics - Bootable USB on Windows



Download the latest Lenovo Linux Diagnostics - Bootable USB image by go to www.lenovo.com/diags, then click Lenovo Bootable Diagnostics from the top navigation list.

After the navigation, click on link Lenovo Diagnostics - Bootable USB (Create it on Windows OS) to reach Lenovo Linux Diagnostics - Bootable USB page to download image.

Please download linux-bootable-cd-xxx.iso from that page where xxx is ther version numder.

Plug the USB Key into your computer and launch Lenovo Bootable Generator, pls notice the following information should be provided by user:

  • Pendrive Label: the new name of the USB key you wish to use
  • Type: Choose Linux from the drop down manu
  • Image: Choose linux-bootable-cd-xxx.iso that you get from previous step
  • Click on the USB key you wish to create the tool with at Available Removable Devices section

Enabling UEFI at Startup


Follow below steps to check if your system is UEFI enabled and how to enable UEFI Boot at startup

  1. Reboot your machine, and when the splash screen appears (the one with the Lenovo Logo),
    press described button to interrupt normal startup. This is typically the “Enter” key.
    After interrupting normal startup, the “Startup Interrupt Menu” will be displayed in screen.
    Now press the key to access “BIOS Setup Utility”, which in this case is “F1”.
  2. The BIOS setup utility is now displayed. If the BIOS Version and BIOS Date start with UEFI, the machine is UEFI enabled.
  3. To enable UEFI, use the left arrow (<-) or Right arrow (->) key to highlight the "Startup" menu
  4. Use the Down arrow key to highlight the UEFI/Legacy Boot item.
  5. Using the Arrow and Enter keys change this setting to "Both"
  6. Now highlight the UEFI/KLegacy Boot Priority item, and using the arrow and Enter keys, change this setting to "UEFI First".
  7. To save, press the F10 key to save and exit the BIOS utility.

Limitations


  • Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB only runs on systems that are UEFI enabled.
  • USB Key label must have 11 characters at maximum
  • All explorer windows should be closed while createing the Bootable USB.
  • SATA Controller Mode needs to be set to AHCI in system BIOS if the system doesn't use UEFI BIOS
