Windows XP Downgrade Drivers and Applications for VGN-Z2 Series Notebook

These are the Windows XP drivers and applications for VGN-Z2 Series (Individual drivers)
Note: These drivers are provided individually to enable a faster download speed.

Applicable Models:
VGN-Z27TN, VGN-Z26GN, VGN-Z25TN, VGN-Z27GN, VGN-Z26MN, VGN-Z26TN, VGN-Z26SN

IMPORTANT: Before proceeding with the upgrade, disconnect all external hardware devices, including PC Cards etc

Note: Before proceeding, ensure that the VAIO computer is operated using the supplied AC adapter.

Note: Save all data/files and close all running programs

Please note that when installing either of the Windows XP versions, users may no longer have access to some preinstalled software or will not be able to use some of preinstalled functions. Below are the functions that are confirmed to be unusable once users downgrade to Windows XP on VGN-Z2 Series:

1. The audio format which can be output is PCM only. (AC3 and DTS, used for DVD, are converted into PCM 48kHz 2ch and output.)
2. Sound is also output from the built-in Speaker when using HDMI output mode
3. When using Hardware Graphics switch button function to change the graphics mode such as from Intel Graphics to NVIDIA Graphics, there is no pop up notification. Customers need manually restart the computers by themselves.
4. When using STAMINA mode, after changing brightness via Fn+F5/F6 key, the brightness is not saved after restarting the unit.
5. Plug and Display function does not work.
6. Fn+F9/F10 (Zoom in/Zoom out) function key does not work.
7. Sounds are not output when playing back DVD titles that uses Dolby Digital Sounds via Windows Media Player.
8. Blu-ray drive function is not supported.
9. Hard disk Drive protection function cannot be used.
10. Sometimes the error message “System file cannot be updated” appears when installing TPM Professional Package.
11. Some contents in Bluetooth Utility help file are not correct.
12. There is no manual on how to use XP.
13. RAID Function cannot be used.

1. To install SATA driver (Optional)Download

If the supplied XP installation disc is used to change the current Operating System to Windows XP Pro(This disc is only bundled with preinstalled Windows Vista Business models.), this driver need not be installed. Otherwise, proceed as below: 1. Find one external floppy disk drive and connect with the unit. 2. Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the external floppy disk drive, and unzip the downloaded zip file. 3. Copy these 6 unzip files to the blank formatted floppy disk. 4. Start the Microsoft® Windows® Operating System setup by booting from the installation CD. 5. At the beginning of the Operating System setup, press theF6 key to install a third-party SAST or RAID driver. 6. When prompted, insert the floppy disk with the SATA driver files. 7. After reading the floppy disk, the SATA Controller will be presented. Select this driver to install (Please click PgUP button to choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller option). Finish the Windows® Operating System installation and install all necessary drivers.

2. To install Chipset Software Installation Utility Download

1. Download the Chipset.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference). 2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Chipset.EXE file to begin the installation. 3. Follow the installation wizard that appears. 4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation. NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears. 5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

3. To Install Intel Graphics Driver (make sure the switch of video card is at “STAMINA”) Download

1. Download the Graphics-Intel.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference). 2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Graphics-Intel.EXE file to begin the installation. 3. Follow the installation wizard that appears. 4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation. NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears. 5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.
